We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Royal Warrant from His Majesty The King

Following the death of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Charltons had to apply for the Kings Royal Warrant. Warrants are not automatically renewed. We had to demonstrate Social & Environmental responsibilities, providing evidence to show this. The application was scrutinised by the Royal Household Warrants Committee, who made their recommendation to the Grantor. Supplying goods or services to a Royal Household is no guarantee that a warrant will be issued. Charltons are one of just 550 Warrant Holders and have been awarded the Warrant for the next 4 years.

‘It is a huge honour to have been awarded the King’s Warrant,’ said Mr ‘AJ’ Charlton. ‘We remain extremely proud to be Royal Warrant holders, recognising the Royal Warrant as a treasured and respected mark of excellence and quality.’

AJ Charlton’s son, Michael, originally applied for the Royal Warrant, which was awarded to Charltons in 2000 after supplying Sandringham Estate for the previous 6 years. In 2015 Charltons supplied and fitted a large pair of bespoke gates to Buckingham Palace, and have also supplied gates to other members of the Royal Household.

The history of the Royal Warrant can be traced back to medieval times when competition for royal favour was intense and the monarch had the pick of the country’s most proficient tradespeople. The earliest surviving record of this royal approval dates from 1155 when Henry II granted the Weavers’ Company a Royal Charter. In 1394, the Mercers’ Company – helped by Dick Whittington – received a Royal Charter for their luxury fabrics.

Each time there is a change of Monarch the Coat of Arms is changed. We will be continuing to use the Queen’s Coat of Arms until we are issued with the Kings Arms towards the end of January at which point we will start changing our signage, vehicles and literature.

Charlton’s strive for exceptional quality in everything that we do, with quality ingrained our ethos, we are thrilled to have been recognised by His Majesty The King by the granting of the Royal Warrant. It is a reflection of the hard work of all the team involved here over the past 122 years and we are all exceptionally proud of this achievement.
